Day 4, 31st October 2000.

Got up late today making the most of the Peabody's fine room.  This was a fairly uneventful day however covering about 460 miles to Plano Texas.  We traveled most of the day through the state of Arkansas.  No cell coverage for the entire state, no civilization at all.  We passed by the town of Hope, Arkansas which was the birthplace of President Clinton but couldn't work out from the highway which was his trailer (slang for trailer is tornado bait)!  Apart from that we saw only roadworks and a hell of a lot of smokeys who were very interested in the little red "Connecticut bear bait".  Fortunately a combination of the CB and the radar detector we traversed Arkansas unscathed.  Didn't stop for lunch as there was nowhere to stop of interest.

The CB today was full of interesting nature tips on where to find alligators, boas, cottonmouth snakes and deadly spiders in Arkansas.  We learnt that one of the best cures for a snake bite was to "slap on some chewing tobacco".

As soon as we crossed the border into Texas, the roads improved, everything was much less dusty and the countryside improved.  Civilization again!  We got into the Dallas area at around rush hour(s) and proceeded to get stuck in traffic for two hours.  We eventually arrived at Bev's apartment at 6:30, just in time to sh**, shower, shave and go out for the night.

Not many pictures today, but traffic cones look the same the world over, tomorrow we'll make up for it.  Please note, however, that the picture is bigger than our usual 320x240 because everything is bigger in Texas.
