Day 19, 15th November 2000.

Okay so there were was little to look at on the last page, my apologies.  However, today I will make up for it.  Chris decided to spend the morning in bed, but I wanted to see "the nation's capital".  Therefore booked myself on one of those tour-bus things that picked me up at the hotel and off I went.  The guide was wonderful his style of delivery was perfect, and we saw just about everything there was to see.

There was the Capitol building, which was strange seeing for real after the numerous occasions of seeing it on TV.  We then drove around all the offices nearby and the courts, etc.  The FBI headquarters, The Ford Theatre where Lincoln was shot.

Then there was The Whitehouse of course.  Again it seemed strange seeing it in the flesh.  We had actually parked around the other side (for the small picture view), but I ran around to the other side to get the classic Oval Office picture.  Interesting to see the obvious suit 'n' shades stereotype FBI agents too.  After this we headed to some of the monuments and memorials.

Here's the Jefferson Memorial, it was impossible to get it all in as it was enormous.  The view Jefferson has (well if he wasn't made of bronze that is) can be seen in the smaller picture below.

You can just make out the oval office in the middle across the Potomac River, and the Washington Monument on the right.

We headed off then to the Lincoln Memorial which is close by to some of the other famous memorials, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the (again) Gump famous, Martin Luther King famous, etc. Reflecting Pool.

After this we headed off to the F.D. Roosevelt Memorial which was a series of stone walls with inscriptions of famous comments he had made.  Unfortunately however a tree got in the way of this one and it reads somewhat differently now!!!!  Well, there were other bits too, but I didn't get pictures of them.  It was a shame to only have the one morning as I could have spent a good week here, I loved it.

Well today was supposed to be "driving home day" but Chris got a call from the office to say that he was needed in Allentown, PA.  This was a bit of a detour but nevertheless in the right direction(ish).  We arrived early evening in time to meet up with his colleagues.  We then headed off for some wonderful food (and lots of bread) and wine at one of few decent looking establishments in Allentown.  A great evening was had and we headed back to the hotel bar and managed to drink the bar entirely dry of their best beer!

Well, I'm not going to worry about doing a Day 20 as Chris went to see the his client and I sat in the hotel bar drinking coffee and watching the election all day!  Then, in the evening headed back for home, knackered, but very, very satisfied.
