Day 18, 14th November 2000.

Well I guess sooner or later it was going to happen, when you put the likes of Jef in charge of navigation then you really are throwing caution to the wind!  Okay, okay, I admit it, this time I messed up!  We left Wilmington and headed up towards D.C.  or at least that's what we thought we were doing.  No, in fact we were heading towards Charlotte, about 90o off the course.  Fortunately however, we could join another Interstate part way along therefore making it look almost deliberate.

Well if there was a place to stop and buy cigarettes then this was it.  North Carolina moving into Virginia - everywhere on the road were signs pointing to discount tobacco stores.

The journey was a long one, and the weather appalling, it was not worth even trying the camera as nothing would have come out, just splodges of grey.  We arrived in Washington, or actually in Alexandria, VA where the hotel was (about 6 miles outside).

We checked in, check mail and checked out again fairly quickly to check out the Brickskeller that I had heard so much about.  A fairly unassuming bar from the outside, but inside and down the stairs opened up a whole new meaning to the phrase "a range of beers".  In fact they stock over 800 different beers from around the world!  If you don't believe me, then check out the list on the following website: http://hometown.aol.com/brickskeller/myhomepage/index.html

Well we eventually got asked to leave at about 2am and headed back for the hotel.
