Day 13, 9th November 2000.

We woke up once again feeling a little worse for wear.  However, there was driving to be done and despite the fact that ZPOWER looked as though it had been through Bosnia, it was running like a dream.  The picture shows the current state of the poor car.

The drive took us through Houston (photograph of skyline) and across the Louisiana boarder.  We stopped as ever in the visitor center and learned that you can save a fortune in motels just by stopping in and picking up some vouchers.  The visitor center itself was set in swampland, and although the sun was shining and the water looked crystal clear, you can see why we were not tempted by the lake.

On the through to our destination much of the road was actually bridge, the bridge went on for mile upon mile over the swampland.  The scenery of the Cypress Trees, Spanish Moss and water was wonderful.

We were originally heading for Lafayette, but it looked a little quiet and we didn't see any bars, so we headed off to the state capital Baton Rouge which sits on the edge of the Mississippi.  Here we found a bargain motel (using the vouchers) and headed off for some good Cajun cuisine.  After which we hit the motel bar before heading off for a relatively early night.
