Day 11, 7th November 2000.

Well, the new cooling fan for the Z arrived this morning but had a broken frame.  So, between Darrell, Chris and myself, we went about dismantling the old and new to make one that worked.  Yes, by the way, I did help out too - Scary stuff!  The Z fired up well and it looked like everything was okay.  However, before we left we had to take a picture of Darrell and his "Lead Sled". The car that got us around Phoenix.  It was an absolute beauty as you can see.

So, we said farewell to Darrell and headed off to the desert.  Once again thanks Darrell, you were a perfect host and a good friend.

The desert was an interesting place.  This was the bit we'd been waiting for....  empty roads, fast speeds, roof off, having a ball.  However, we were quite surprised to say the least.

The first stretch down to Tucson was hot, and the scenery was breathtaking.  Here's a shot of the road with the mountains in the background.  Arizona is a bizarre place, most of it is completely flat and then out of nowhere come huge steep mountains.  The one in the picture was used by Native Americans as a lookout post.

Then there was a problem.  Not far from the border of New Mexico we were unable to take photographs out of the car due to the snow!  Yes, that's right - snow!  First of all in Northern Arizona the desert was flooded, and now it's covered in a thin layer of snow.  We demand a refund!

We stopped for lunch in Tombstone as we'd hoped.  We ended up spending far too long there and as a result, didn't get into El Paso until late.  But it was worth every second.  We arrived, parked the car, found our sweaters and jackets and braved the cold.  In the background of the first picture below you can see the snow.  The other pictures show various bits of the whole OK Corral site.  We arrived in El Paso late and therefore just got something to eat and then crashed.
